Ernest “Ernie” Irwin Ferguson Sept. 24, 1927 – May 12, 2025 A long life that unfolded with a loving family, treasured friends and good fortune has come to an end with a reunion in heaven with his beloved wife Mona on their Wedding anniversary. Ernie was a successful business operator and leader, a devoted patriarch and active outdoorsman who was an “Artist” with a canoe. He found joy in his morning paddles, or his evening swim on the Trent Canal. He died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family. Father to Heather (Donald) Wooldridge, Cindi Ferguson and Marcus (Cheryl). A father figure to his niece Tish (Peirson) Deschenes and nephew Michael Peirson. Grandfather to Abigail, Amy, Justen (Jaquie), Jesse (Kaila) and Alycia Grace. Great-grandfather to Amera, Hayden, Indy and Jude. A loving uncle and mentor to his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister Arlene and predeceased by his brother Wayne. Despite turning down the Grade 8 valedictorian address and returning home after one year at McMaster University, Ernie seized many subsequent opportunities that created a full life. Skating partner from the Peterborough Figure Skating Club (founded by his parents) to life partner, Marrying Mona Catherine Peirson on May 12, 1951 they began a wonderful partnership. Taking over for his dad, Ernie Sr. at Ferguson Cleaners from 1959 to 1990. During his career, Ernie led the Dry Cleaners Institute and Fabricare Canada contributing a regular column to the industry’s top publication. He and Mona enjoyed travel, camping and conversation. They loved dancing, skating and the many social gatherings with friends and family. They Volunteered many years together at Meals on Wheels and Food for Kids. Ernie co-organized reunions with his former King George School classmates. Always up for an adventure, his 94th Birthday involved a chartered flight over the local lakes he canoed as a younger man. The following year he rode an ultralight trike for a joy ride in the sky – always embracing life with laughter and a smile and Always quick with a joke and a story to tell. In recent months, Ernie experienced serious complications from heart issues. With a severely diminished quality of life, he contacted M.A.i.D. to grant him peace. As he said often in his final days, “I just want to go home and be with Mona.” A drop in celebration of life for Ernie and Mona will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 52 (1550 Lansdowne St. W.) on Wednesday May 14, 2025 from 1 - 4pm . -God Be With You, Til We Meet Again.
