Frederick Drake Jopling

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Jopling on June 3, surrounded by his loving family at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Drake was in his 81st year. Drake was the beloved husband of Lois Jopling. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank (Drake) and Dorothy Jopling, and by his sister, Susan. He was a loving father to Drake Jr. (Katrina) and Lindsay (Steve), and a proud and devoted grandfather to Jack, Louise, Brock, Annabelle, Gray, and Hailey. Drake was a special uncle to Matt, Terra, Luke, Noah, Jessica, Emily, Garth, Grayson, Liam, Alyha, Madison, Samantha, Alex, and Levi. Born and raised in Peterborough, Drake enjoyed an active life filled with sports, family, and friendships. He spent countless happy days at his beloved cottage on Chemong Lake, where he eventually made his home and resided until his passing. A talented hockey player, Drake was called up to play for the Peterborough TPT Petes, where he played for five seasons. He later continued his hockey career in the United States, playing professionally in Memphis, Salt Lake City, and Muskegon. Upon returning home, Drake remained passionate about sports, enjoying recreational hockey, slow-pitch baseball, golf, and skiing. Whether on the ice, the ball diamond, the golf course, or the ski hill, he embraced every opportunity to stay active and enjoy life. Drake was also a devoted animal lover who took great pride in caring for his horses, dogs, and cats. His family often joked that if there was another life, they would want to come back as one of Drake's animals because they were so loved and well cared for. In addition to his love of sports, Drake enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors. In recent years, he and his family were fortunate to have a trailer in Haliburton Forest, a place they fondly referred to as their little piece of heaven. More recently, Drake cherished time spent with family, friends, hockey buddies, and ball buddies, whether gathered in his man cave or sharing stories and laughs with "the boys" at Lansdowne Place. Drake was a kind and gentle giant. However, anyone who knew him would say that if you put a pair of skates on him and met him in the corner, you'd better be prepared. His favourite saying to his family was, "I'll tell you what to do," and, more often than not, he did. Drake will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held July 19, 2026, The Quarry Golf Club Ennismore. The family will receive friends from 2-5pm In memory of Drake, donations to the Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
