Jeannette Morgan

Jeannette Morgan (née Mutzfeld) August 1, 1922 – July 13, 2025 Mary Jeannette was born in Butler, Indiana, daughter of Wayland and Mae (Bryant) Mutzfeld. Predeceased by an older brother Harley and younger sister Thelma. Attended Butler grade and high schools, Ball State Teachers College for three years and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelors Degree in 1945. Married John Hanly Morgan of New Albany, Indiana at Butler on September 6, 1942. They had four children: Lois Jean (Michael Hathaway), David Hollis (Kathryn), Lee Bryant (deceased) wife Beverley, and Ann Louise (deceased) husband John Friday. Jeannette has nine grandchildren: Blue, Vada, Danial, Sara and Paul Morgan; Morgan, Kathryn and David Friday; and Grant Lauer, and six great grandchildren. Many cousins, nieces and nephews have shared her life. Jeannette assisted her husband in his work as an ordained Unitarian minister throughout their long marriage. His work moved them to many cities in the United States: Waverley, Massachusetts; Charlotte, North Carolina; Indianapolis, Indiana; Flint, Michigan; South Bend, Indiana; and finally in 1959 to Canada and the First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto. Following John's retirement, they moved to Peterborough, Ontario in 1987. Throughout these moves she managed to maintain her own career as a substitute teacher, school cafeteria manager, doctor's secretary, and owner of several small enterprises. In Toronto she was appointed Public Relations Officer in the Research and Evaluation Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Education where she worked for ten years until her retirement in 1985. Her volunteer work centred mostly on women's struggles and peace issues. She served on the boards of the YWCA in South Bend, Flint, and Toronto; on the board of the Canadian Peace Congress; was treasurer of the Hans Blumenthal Peace Foundation; and, participated in many Voice of Women conferences and peace marches across Canada and the U.S. She was a delegate to the World Peace Congress for International Women's Year in Berlin (1975) and to many conferences in Canada and around the world for the Canadian Peace Congress (1972-1985). Jeannette continued her affiliation with the Unitarian Universalist Association as a member of the Peterborough Unitarian Fellowship.
