John Hall

It is with great sadness that the family of John Hall announce his passing on December 18, 2020, surrounded by his loving family, in his 72nd year, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. He will be profoundly missed by Mary, his loving wife of fifty wonderful years, his two children Tammy (Richard) and Jeff (Aleta) and his six adoring grandchildren: Matthew, Andrew, Nathan, Blake, Sage and Maggie. John was born in Kitchener, where he grew up with his brother and five sisters. After wooing and winning Mary, his family expanded to include her six siblings. His love of his expanded family continued as spouses entered the picture and life long bonds were forged. To his nieces and nephews he was their beloved Uncle John, who forever endeared them with bird calls, funny noises and other silly antics and as they aged provided a loving ear and sage advice. He graduated from Waterloo Collegiate, where he was named "fastest pen" by his peers. Upon graduation he quickly started work at Lear Corporation as a welder, before attending George Brown College training as an electrician. He used his knack for fixing anything mechanical as a way to work his way up to Facilities and Purchasing Manager. When he retired, he helped design and build their dream home overlooking Pigeon Lake where they could host their whole family. Ennismore was an adopted town for John and Mary, where in addition to playing golf, he started his own golf cart refurbishing business which turned out to be a full-time job but was also a community builder for him. John was the type of guy that you called when something was broken. Many of us experienced the situation where you couldn’t quite explain the problem, he would patiently listen, know what you meant, drop everything and show up at your door with a tool you’ve never seen or heard of, fix your problem and tell you “It was a spare, so just keep it for next time”. To his friends, his name evokes smiles, fond memories of laughter and most importantly the way he enriched each of their lives. Everyone has a John Hall story and we love hearing them all. Most of them centre around John's generosity and thoughtfulness. Although, it is curious that many others involve plotting and carrying out some ingenious practical joke without proof he was the perpetrator. He never missed the opportunity to give his family massive hugs and tell us how much he loved us. Every single time. The generosity of his time, his experience, his knowledge, his wisdom, his kindness and his unbounded love for his family and friends is an inspiration and aspiration for us all. He was slowed down with kidney failure, but eight years ago he was blessed with a kidney donation from Mary and the gift of more time with his beloved family. He savoured every moment before a brief illness took him far too soon. He was so remarkably loved by so many. John will live forever in our hearts. We all long for the day we can meet, hug and share our fond memories of John and what he brought to all of our lives. When we can gather again, we will celebrate John’s life together. Until then, please continue to share your stories and memories with the family, as they bring us joy in this moment of sorrow.
