Ruth Sratton-Halchuk (Scott)

Ruth Elaine Stratton-Halchuk left this world embraced in the love and support of her family on Thursday, July 21st in her 91st year, in Norwood, Ontario. Ruth was the cherished daughter of Gwendolyn (Lehman) and Herbert Ross Stratton. Beloved wife of the late Volodymyr (Walter) Halchuk. Much loved mother of Bill Scott (Dubravka), Mike Scott (Darlene), Lin Anderson, Sandi Campbell (Mike Beach), Margaret Scott and Ron Scott. Loving Grandma of Stephen, Heather, Michael, Vanessa, Julie, Rob, Leah, Marni, Jen, Katherine, Olivia, Victoria, Evan, Taylor and Carson. Great Grandma (Gigi) of seven and Great Great Grandma of our newest angel, Harley. Dear sister of late Lee, late Garry and Trevor Stratton. She held a special place in the hearts of her nephews and nieces. Mom spent her early years in North Bay before her family moved to Englehart. She married young and had five of her six children there. The youngest was born in Sault Ste Marie after the family relocated. Mom’s love of music was sparked by her uncles who had an orchestra in North Bay. Mom taught piano lessons in the Sault and sang in church choirs. She passed on her ability to appreciate good music of all genres to her children. Education was highly valued by Mom and she never lost her love of learning. At the age of 45 she graduated Laurentian University with a degree in psychology. She worked as a Child and Youth Worker at the Sudbury Algoma Sanatorium until her retirement at age 65. Mom was unfailingly kind to those she met and was well liked by all. She had a way of listening to people that made them feel heard. Mom had a gift for finding joy and laughter in even the most challenging of times. She was a woman of strong faith; she loved Canada. Family was everything to Mom. She raised us to appreciate and to value time spent together. Mom believed in us and was always willing to help us to solve any issue we faced. We would like to acknowledge the exceptional and compassionate care Mom received from Dr Lunn and the staff at Pleasant Meadow Manor. It meant a lot to us that Mom was so well cared for. In accordance with Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Mom would be honoured by any wishing to donate to one of her favourite charities: Canadian Feed The Children, Canadian Wildlife Federation, or Nature Conservancy of Canada. We were so blessed to have you in our lives, Mom, and so honoured to be there to support you at the end. We go forward assured that your love will continue to surround us. We love you, Mom. Rest well.
