Timothy Rae

Timothy “Tim” John Rae, aged 69, passed away peacefully on May 11th, 2024, at MAiD House Toronto, with his wife lovingly by his side. Born June 20th, 1954, to Marilyn “Ruth” and John Rae. Tim lived most of his rambunctious young life in Jackson’s Point, Georgina, ON, with his 5 siblings Rick, Laurie, Cindy, Dan, and Terri. Although he was born and lived in Toronto until he was 10, Jackson’s Point is where he called home until his early 30’s. He attended Sutton High School (albeit not very much), where he met many of his lifelong friends. There, Tim met his first wife Sandra, married at a young age of 18 in 1972, and together they had their son Jody. Even after his and Sandra's divorce, Tim was determined to remain in Jody’s life. He loved Jody and was always looking for (sometimes silly) excuses to see him. In 1987, Tim met Lynne at a bar in Georgina. Although they joked that he came off strong, Lynne could see the lovingness behind his humour and jokes. They soon fell in love, married in 1989 and moved to Peterborough, ON. Here, they had two daughters, Ceilidh and Aislinn. Forever proud of his children, touting them as “his greatest accomplishments,” there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his kids. Driving long distances to watch Jody play hockey, or painting his daughters' nails “smarties”, there was nothing he loved more than spending quality time with his family. He was affectionately known as Daddy-o, and his weekend “adventures” would become legendary. He had a crazy zest for living that he loved sharing with his family and friends, and was always ready to do anything at a moment's notice (especially if it was a Saturday Night!). Tim was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and great (and sometimes odd) sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was filled to the brim with knowledge that he gained through all of his life experiences, and his alleged “47” different jobs. He could fix or build anything; it just might have taken him a few years to finish it. Affectionately known as “Half-Way Rae”, he was a true Jack of All Trades, Master of None. This never stopped him from always offering his help, and giving anyone a hand if they needed it. His hobbies were music, traveling, and socializing. He loved to pick up the guitar and play, a gift he passed to his youngest child Aislinn. Whether it was around a campfire, or a gig with his band, he loved sharing music with others. Tim loved traveling, from small weekend adventures to big oversea ones. When his eldest daughter and her husband moved to Germany, he was the first person to come and visit, making long and detailed lists of the things (mostly castles!) he wanted to see. Lastly, he loved visiting friends and neighbours. He would drop by (often unannounced, and to the annoyance of any family members with him) for a drink and a chat, and his ability to keep in touch will forever be remembered. After suffering from a stroke in 2022, his life was forever changed . He put on a brave face in front of others, but his quality of life had been forever altered. He still had his zest for life right up until the end, but the pain was all consuming. When he knew it was his time to leave the party, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him, and all of those who will come after. He will be remembered for all the love he shared with his friends and family. In typical Tim fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. As the life of the party, he didn’t want a funeral or celebration of life that he could not attend himself. So instead, at the next social gathering you are at (preferably one with good music and good friends), raise a glass to Tim. He will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbours, and family.
