Darrell Halstead

HALSTEAD, Darrell Malcolm Terry. After a brief but aggressive battle with cancer, Darrell passed peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on February 4th, 2025. His family was by his side enjoying cribbage and cards throughout his final days. Darrell celebrated his 81st Birthday on January 15th. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Linda (n.Dainard). Loving father of Terry (Sara) of Guelph, and Debbie of Peterborough. Grandfather of Charlotte (Drew), Alexander, Nathan, Liam, Magnolia and Avriella. Brother of Wayne (Janet), Diane, and predeceased by Doug Howarth (Irene). Brother-In-Law to Nancy Kerr, Donald Dainard and predeceased by Doris Perritt and Verna Terrion (Wayne). Fondly remembered Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son of the late Willliam (Bill) and Eva Halstead. Darrell grew up in East City on Rogers Street. His career started at Cherney’s Furniture, followed by many years at Cavalier Beverages (Pepsi). Darrell‘s final employer, Bryan Cathcart Trucking, was so much more than a job. Darrell was well respected and appreciated by his many APT customers. Darrell was grateful for the recognition shown by Bryan and Denise on so many occasions. It was kind, thoughtful, and will never be forgotten. Darrell and Linda enjoyed more than 30 years at Donro Trailer Park on Pigeon Lake. He formed many friendships over horseshoes, card games, campfires, and hot dogs! Darrell was a faithful fan to the Toronto Blue Jays but his all-time favorite sport was WWF Wrestling! His driving career meant he could always be counted on for a helping hand during moves for his children and family, whether lifting, moving or trucking down the 401. Thank-you to the wonderful and compassionate care from the D2 Palliative nurses in his final days, especially to Tonia during his last hours. Dr. Webster was extremely empathetic to Darrell with great compassion for Linda, as she dealt with the pending loss of her husband. In keeping with Darrell’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with burial to be in the future at Rosemount Memorial Gardens. Darrell became aware of Myhre Syndrome after the diagnosis was given to his youngest granddaughter Avriella in 2020.
