Joseph “Joey” Whitehead July 24, 2026 — Age 79 It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of Joseph “Joe” Whitehead on July 24, at the age of 79. Born and raised in his beloved hometown of Stirling, Joe carried the spirit of that community with him throughout his life. Predeceased by his parents, Glen and Zita Whitehead, he is survived by his sister, Christine, and his five step-children, who he influenced and shaped in formidable ways and embraced as his own. Joe also leaves behind countless friends, both new & old, who felt more like family. His community of friends helped him tremendously in his later years with companionship, compassion & purpose. We want to express our gratitude to his ‘circle’ of caring friends, who enriched his life in so many ways. Joe dedicated 30 years of his life to the Peterborough Examiner, where he built a career in advertising, marked by commitment, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the stories & people that shape a community. His work connected him to people from all walks of life, something he cherished deeply. To know Joe was to know a true character—one of those rare individuals who could fill a room with laughter simply by walking into it. A natural storyteller, he loved connecting, sharing jokes, and making sure everyone around him felt included and entertained. His humor was infectious, his timing impeccable, and his presence unforgettable. Outside of work, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures that made life rich. He loved fishing- early morning trips to Millbrook, detailing every lure, secret spot & catch in meticulous journals & cooking the best walleye to share when we returned home. He was a devoted fan of The Toronto Maple Leaf’s and Borje Salming (#21), cheering with unwavering loyalty through every game. Music was another passion that stayed with him throughout his life, filling his days with rhythm, nostalgia, and joy. Joe was happiest standing over a grill, barbecuing the best burger made from scratch, or cooking up delicious meals to share with the people he loved. Generosity was woven into the fabric of who he was—if Joe had something, he shared it. He gave freely, wholeheartedly, and without ever expecting anything in return. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joe leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and genuine warmth. His stories will continue to be told, his jokes remembered, and his spirit felt in every memory shared. Rest in peace, dear friend, father, brother. Your light & laughter lives on in all of us. A short service to intern Joe’s ashes in his family plot at the Stirling Cemetery will take place on August 15 at 1pm, followed by ‘cool drinks & conversation” at St John’s Anglican Church in the hall at 2pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Joe’s generous spirit and group of caring friends, the family asks that you perform an unexpected act of kindness today: lend a hand to a neighbour, hug your loved ones a little tighter, or make a donation to a local charity close to your heart.
