Shawn Douglas Staples

Shawn (the gentle giant) passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the PRHC, at the age of 57 surrounded by his loved ones. Shawn will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate of 25 years, Kimberly Staples (Meeks). Shawn is predeceased by his father, Gary Staples and Shawn leaves behind his mother, Shirley Staples of Sarnia, his wife, Kimberly Staples, and his children and a grandson, Ryan Staples (Autumun) and Cortez Staples, Devin Staples (Mackenzie), Kyle Kitchener, and Brandon Meeks (Amy), his brothers Robert Staples (Edwina) and Scott Staples (Theresa). Shawn was a big man with a bigger heart. He was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He would help anyone in the blink of an eye if he felt he could. He was a wonderful husband to Kimberly. He loved going on adventures with her, whether it be to the farmers market, or in another country, he was always happy to tag along and be her chauffeur. Shawn was also an incredible father to his boys Ryan and Devin, and a bonus father to Kyle and Brandon. He was patient, kind, understanding, and always willing to teach them something, or brag about how cool his latest gadget was. Shawn was the proudest Bee-bop to his grandson Cortez (3), he loved him more than words could explain. He was also very excited to be Papa to Brandon and Amy’s expected child. Shawn adored children and had the ability to make them laugh or smile with just a silly face. Shawn was also a great brother to Scott and Rob, and an amazing son to his mom Shirley. He was a family man and would travel any distance to spend time with his mom or to visit his brothers out west. He loved spending time with his family, whether it be fixing things, or making fun of each other, or watching a hockey game, or smoking a big cut of meat. Shawn was the ultimate family man. Shawn will be remembered as a smart, gentle, and caring man. His family will remember him through his passions of hockey, the Leaf’s, the latest tech, and delicious smoked meats. He will be forever thought about and missed by those who had the privilege to know him. A celebration of Shawn's life will take place at the Peterborough Lions Club - 347 Burnham St, Peterborough on Friday, March 13th from 6-9, with tributes at 7pm.
